George J. Koch, who served in Company C, 3rd Michigan Infantry (1st organization) is buried in section 1 lot 175/173 of Mount Calvary Cemetery, Grand Rapids. Company C was made up largely of German-speaking immigrants from the west side of Grand Rapids. In fact, the company grew out of the prewar Grand Rapids German Rifles militia company.
